Abstract

Boilers are auxiliary aircraft on ships that function to produce steam to support the performance of machinery that requires steam to operate. On the ship where the author practices, flame failure often occurs in the auxiliary boiler burner so that ship operations are disrupted. The purpose of this research is to find out what are the causes of flame failure in the auxiliary boiler burner, the impact caused, and the efforts made to overcome these problems. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to obtain information / data from the occurrence of flame failure on the auxiliary boiler burner on the MV. Sky Free. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interview, and documentation. From the results of the study it is known that the causes of flame failure in the burner are dirty nozzles and filters on the nozzle, carbon buildup in the combustion head and furnace, and the distance between ignition electrodes that are too tenuous. The impact of the flame failure is a decrease in steam production which results in low fuel temperatures and not optimal main engine jacket water pre-heater so that ship operations are disrupted. Efforts to overcome flame failure in the burner are to maintain the fuel system leading to the boiler, burner components, and boiler combustion chamber routinely, and to readjust the electrode distance according to the manual book.
