Analisis Penurunan Kinerja Fuel Oil Purifier pada Kapal MV. Fortune Island

The Fuel Oil Purifier is an auxiliary machine designed to separate water, sludge, and solid particles from fuel oil to ensure that clean fuel is supplied to the main engine. On board MV. Fortune Island, the purifier experienced a decline in performance, indicated by overflow, excessive vibration, increased water content in the purified fuel, and frequent system alarms. These conditions reduced the efficiency of the fuel purification process and had the potential to affect the performance of the main engine. This study aims to identify the factors causing the decreased performance of the Fuel Oil Purifier, determine its impact on the main engine, and propose appropriate corrective measures.This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with engine officers and operators, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and triangulation.The results showed that the decreased performance of the Fuel Oil Purifier was mainly caused by a damaged main seal ring, worn vertical shaft bearing, clogged pilot valve, sludge accumulation in the bowl and disc stack, and inadequate maintenance practices. These failures resulted in overflow, excessive vibration, reduced fuel separation efficiency, and poor fuel quality supplied to the main engine. Corrective actions included overhauling the purifier, replacing the damaged main seal ring and vertical shaft bearing, cleaning the pilot valve, bowl, and disc stack, and implementing regular preventive and corrective maintenance. Proper maintenance restored the purifier's performance, maintained fuel quality, and supported the safe and efficient operation of MV. Fortune Island.
